Saturday Junk and Garden "Proofing"

We are having gorgeous Summer-like weather this weekend but I took time out to hit one estate sale before I got busy in the yard yesterday.  This sale had tons of guy stuff.  That fellow must have tried on every hobby he could think of and who knows, maybe sewing was one of them.
A little pile of buttons and a batch of thimbles.  I especially like the advertising ones. This lot included Watkins, Sacramento Bee and New System Laundry. There was also an interesting one with a built-in thread cutter on the side.  You can click the pictures bigger and see it about center.  This is my third darning egg so it's official.
Lots of vintage seam binding.  There was more iron-on hiding in the lot than I realized and I don't usually buy that kind but who knows, maybe one of these days I'll actually sew something - haha!  Nice little lot of vintage millinery fruits.
Three new needle cards for my collection.  The bottom one is badly damaged but the one at the top made up for it.  It is brand new in the original glassine envelope.
Two hankies for me and a big stack of plain white ones with tatted edges that will make their way to Etsy once I do that wash/rinse/repeat thingie.
The Husband has been "proofing" the garden.  The marigold are to keep the moths off the cabbages and the wire is to keep the cats from digging up the seeds and leaving little surprises it their place.
Lots done in the yard this weekend and next post will be my trip to Vintage Cottage Home vintage flea this morning.

Wow the needle cards are wonderful! And I have never heard of a thimble with a thread cutter on the side! Awesome Kathy!

The garden is looking great; I would need your system of protection from the yard bunnies; what a good way to keep them safe!

I think of you every time I see a needle card. :-) As a former Sacramentan, I was interested to hear the local paper there once promoted itself with thimbles.

Looking forward to hearing about VCH Flea. I didn't make it there this weekend so I will have to live through you.

Great little sewing haul you have here. Those thimbles are so cute, I never knew they had advertising thimbles. Look at that garden! How exciting!

Oh what a lucky girl you were to find all the sewing sweets! Your garden looks like a happy place. Hubs is still building the fence to keep the rabbit out!

The garden looks really good. Love the "kitty guard". Now I can picture you there sitting and watching things grow.

You scored big on the sewing stuff. Glad you found a couple of things for your collections too. Your garden is already growing! Looking good Kathy! Soon you will be eating from it.

Nice loot that you found! I had to cover my garden beds too. The cats like to leave surprises, and the dogs like to go behind them and dig it up. Yuck!

Hope you're having a great week.

Jealously eyeing those pretty pink buttons - not to mention that garden!

I'm not a fan of the iron on binding either...it doesn't seem to end well! Thanks for pointing out that thread cutter on the thimble. I will have to start looking more closely at thimbles! I'm envious of your gardening efforts.

Oh, you know those pink buttons caught my eye! We spent the weekend planting containers with Shylee's help! :)
