The New "The Bins"

Goodwill opened a new Outlet Store (aka The Bins) here in Portland just FOUR blocks from my office.  DANGER DANGER, WILL ROBINSON!!  I did not brave the grand opening on Thursday since I had to work and it did cause two traffic alerts about crashes on the morning commute.  Confirmation that we are not alone in our passion for junking!
Since it is new it cleaner than the other one but I'm sure that will change in time - LOL!  I didn't make a giant haul but pulled out 11 pounds.  The "mod" fabric in the back is an apron.  The Holiday thermos was my favorite find.  It has a few dents but the liner isn't broken and will make a neat display piece.  The pattern is modern but perfectly Steampunk style.
Sequin scrim and a plastic doily with gold accents.  I haven't seen that one before.
I liked the drawer liner paper for the floral pattern but the scent is nasty.  It has been my experience that ironing it removes the scent - IF I can survive the process.  By the pound, you can afford to take the gamble.
The poor little blind dolly has already lost her head.  You know I love the ones with the wonky eyes.  Speaking of wonky eyes...  I will be getting my other cataract removed this coming Thursday and can hardly wait!  2014 is going down in the books as the year of not being able to see and I am more than ready to have it behind me.
Sweet rick-rack detail on the apron.
Three wooden frames for the future booth.  All of the fabric I picked up is fodder for whatever I can come up with for the back wall behind the booth space.  I am thinking layers of curtains but nothing "jelling" in my mind yet so just gathering inspiration.
It is football day in America - Go Seahawks!

Lucky Portland to have another place to find good junk! Love that thermos and all your fun goodies. Hoping all goes well on Thursday (I know it will) and you're back in action soon.

So glad I read your blog to keep up with all the "important" breaking portland news!! So glad to hear there's another bins....one of my fave shopping destinations, lol. You are going to HAVE to get that booth space ;-)

I've been looking for some of that sequin scrim--with no luck--to use as a little stencil in my paintings. I'll have to keep an eye on when you list it.

I've been seeing thermos displays lately and I really like the idea. I wish we would get a new shop or goodwill here. But I won't hold my breath for that one! I'll be thinking of you Thursday :)

I have been following you for awhile and just totally enjoy seeing the amazing things you find! Some of them I had or remember from my past and think "I should have kept mine!". Thanks for sharing the memories. Where do you find such wonderful things?

I'll be thinking of you on Thursday. I know you will glad to have it over and done with! Those bins are not that far for me to go and so I will probably make it over there, especially since they are cleaner (for now) than the one we have over here. Fun finds and I notice you are openly looking for things for the booth! Fun, fun, fun!!

I salute good eye health for you! You must be thrilled! I too would be in trouble if a thrift store opened that close to my office, LOL!

We have a Goodwill Weight N Pay in our small city and Ebay sellers are always there looking for goodies. I see one man who knows books that will sell online and he does well enough that he is a Mr. Mom. There is a HUGE one of these in Phoenix and you take your life in your hands if you go there. I've gotten some great stuff but not too much vintage. The one here in Flagstaff used to have good stuff but anything vintage-looking goes somewhere else. Oh,well, I need nothing for sure. Glad you found some goodies.

There used to be 2 "bin" stores within 30 min of me. They closed both and opened ONE an hour away. BOOOO. I used to go weekly but now hardly venture the hour b/c I cannot handle to crowds and rediculous behavior. If I had one as close as yours, I would probably be deeply in debt.

Hi Kathy, having a new Thrift store close by would be dangerous for me too.
WOW you can stop in on your lunch break!! You did haul some great finds.
Great info on ironing the liner to remove the scent.
Best wishes on your procedure Thursday. Good eyesight is a blessing.
Hugs

You are not going to be able to fit into your house if you keep thrifting and imagine how much more you can shop when you can see well.

Good luck on Thursday!

Oh lucky you to have another store nearby! That is how you get the best stuff, being able to stop in often! Good luck on your cataract removal, can[t wait to hear how it went as soon as you feel up to it, so glad you are looking forward to it!
