Cigar Box Collage

There wasn't much play time in the art room (art-ing!) this week but I did play around a little with an inspiration from the very talented Diane over at My Art Journal. She makes some really gorgeous collage cigar boxes.
I think a fair amount of what was called "tramp art" was once made using wooden cigar boxes. I have a few around that I store things in so I decided to spruce one up. Mine is pretty simple stuff since I only took a couple hours to work on it but it put a dozen ideas in my head.
I just glued on some scrapbook paper, did a little rubber stamping, added a few highlights with a white pen and finished it off with a coat of Mod Podge. Also learned you can't put Mod Podge over the top of white Signo ink. In case you were wondering.
I use this one to store some of the pens I shared with you in this post.
This was a lot of fun. Thank you Diane!

I Love seeing Cigar Boxes Transformed ~ something so calming about take something that started with Tobacco & Turning it into Beauty.....

Thanks for stopping & commenting on My Sweet "Lady" I have tried picking up Yarn from Garage sales & Salvation Army before, but since they are usually small balls, they always seem to end up in the bottom of her basket.... I am not sure if the ball of yarn confuses her or not, She will spend an hour getting that yarn to come out of the direct center of the skein, before she actually begins to work..... I do watch the papers for the Sales & use a 40% whenever I can)
Thanks for the idea ~
Have a Wonderful Week

Kathy, thank you so much for mentioning my blog, and I've never been able to find the deeper ones like this one that often---I'm a bit envious. I love that you incorporated the original cigar trim into the design too. I did very well with my boxes at my craft show. I'm glad, because they are one of my favorite things to make! I would make them anyway, even if no one wanted them--Thank You again!

Oh, how pretty it turned out! I've never tried doing this before but I bought some wooden magazine holders with the idea of covering them in paper. You make it sound easy!!

Yes, so pretty! I have some of the same green paper with the birds - I just love it. A fun project! And a very sweet story about your memories from your grandma's hankie box. What a treasure to have.
