A Little Junk and Sad News 8+(

No, the sad news isn't the antique mall space falling through again {whew!!}.  I found out on Sunday that my beloved VOA is closing on July 31st.  Apparently they have decided they can help more people by selling the donations to a for-profit thrift than they can my running their own store. I am all for helping people but DANGIT for me!!
I have a little story about those vintage hat boxes but that will be the next post. In the meantime, a few sweet recent finds. I have a collection of swizzle sticks so I pulled out some duplicates to keep and the rest will be passed along for someone else.
It amazes me when I dig a vintage Dennison "book" of labels out of The Bins.  One man's junk, as they say...
I do not know what the little trinket next to the frog is but I thought it was interesting so it came home with me. The vintage recipe box is J.Chen & Co.
What's not to love with an Irmi Humpty Dumpty!  It is another Bins find.
A pretty vintage hankie and a vintage Oregon Coast souvenir.
This vintage scrapbook is a favorite find.  It is filled with old greeting cards and I'm having pretty good luck running my bone folder under them to pop them out of the very tattered old book.
Here are just a few examples of the wonderful old cards inside.

Next post is what's been going on around here!

Great finds, especially that scrap book! Sorry about the VOA. They closed a not-so-great for-profit thrift store near me because Goodwill is putting in a store in the space next door. I was crossing my fingers that it would be a "bins" store, but NO - it's a Goodwill Boutique with only new items. So sad about that!

That's too bad about the thrift store closing. Will one be taking its place or will the goods go to an established one? If so, do you shop at that one? If so, I hope it's decent! (I wasn't quite clear on that.) I love that little Humpty Dumpty light switch cover. I would use that on one of my own, even though we don't have any kids! My wife and I would get a kick out of it!!! That scrapbook of cards was certainly a find! I have a big hat box. It has mold spots on it, though. But, it's dry and not stinky! Best wishes.

Aarrgghh I hate it when a favorite closes the doors. it was a good, long run while it lasted.

That Humpty Dumpty is so cute. I'm pretty sure it matches a lamp I have.

My mom had that exact same recipe box when I was growing up (and she'd be 90 if she were alive today). I fondly remember swizzle sticks, my parents used to get them out when we had parties. And I feel your pain about the store closing. We need MORE good thrift stores, not less, right?

Oh no, another junkin' spot bites the dust. I think you'll have to stop over there every day until they close. I love your stash of vintage cards that you found hiding in the scrapbook.

I'm so disappointed to hear about the bins, and I don't even live there! The humpty dumpty is just too cute and the the scrapbook with those old cards is awesome! What a lucky find.

Sweet finds!! Love those hat boxes! I have a couple from my great grandmother, which I love!! Sorry about the VOA closing. My favorite thrift store closed in Dec. and my thrifting hasn't been the same. ;) Happy weekend! xo Heather

Soon there will be no "real" thrift stores left. It is very sad! I had a recipe box like yours that I either sold or gave back to a thrift store. It would not have been GW as I only shop there, don't donate. Love the scrapbook. Are you familiar with "un-do"? It is used to remove stickers etc. from paper so you don't pull off the paper with the sticker. Since you will be getting a space it should be in your "Shop kit". It works really well. Stay cool this weekend!
