The flurry of art room re-organizing that started here continued with a score from Nina and Joe's last Friday. Not only do I NOT participate in the big-box feeding frenzy, but the small boxes were all about used. Black Friday my way! I spotted this little cabinet of 27 drawers on Wednesday and left it behind because I couldn't think of where to put it. Needless to say, it haunted me all day Thursday and on Friday it had to be mine.
This is "as found", with no knobs. Another shopper in the store was appalled when I said I might paint it but, trust me, this is not a fine antique. It is made mostly from redwood but there are a few drawer bottoms that are old pieces of paneling. I didn't end up painting it. I covered the fronts of the drawers in wallpaper, lined the drawer bottoms with vintage music paper and fitted it with 27 new knobs. Did I mention it has TWENTY SEVEN drawers!! I have emptied many, many glass jars and a few boxes of various trinkets and actually have a few blank spots in the art room. Egads, imagine that!! There are still some empty drawers. By moving a few things around I found a spot where it fits perfectly. It measures 18" x 21" and each drawer is about the size of a cigar box. I am using very vintage labels from 1932 and writing in pencil in case I change my mind, which you know I will!
My girlfriend came over to make the rounds with me while the boys brewed and she brought me the last of the patterns her sister is cleaning out of her MIL's house. The good ones will be listed on Etsy when I get around to checking them and listing. Some from the first batch are still sitting here waiting, too, so lots of work ahead.
I also got a a big bag of upholstery trims at the VOA. A very fun way to spend Back Friday! Did you brave the crowds or choose the road less traveled?

I actually caught my breath when I saw those drawers. They are BEAUTIFUL! xx
Wow! I am amazed it was still there! I would have snatched that beauty up in an instant - I just LOVE old drawers. Your reno looks fab Kathy!
Since we don't have the day off up here, Black Friday isn't the huge deal it is down there - although every year more and more stores advertise "Black Friday Sales"... In Canada, we have Boxing Day on Dec 26th - our time for big sales is AFTER Christmas!
How could you walk away from all those drawers? I love how you covered them and they would fit perfectly in part of my home if you ever decide to rid yourself of them. I don't shop on black Friday at the big boxes. Went to a craft fair that was awful and an antique store (Both in Redmond, OR.)
What a wonderful find! I love the way you have redecorated it with wallpaper and new knobs. So perfect for storage! Always the road less traveled for me. I spent Black Friday with my daughter, learning all about cloth diapering, and then at a wonderful, independently owned children's bookstore. And we stopped in at a family owned bakery for lunch, and then came home. :-) I love supporting local, family owned businesses.
I'm so happy you went back and adopted those wonderful drawers,I love what you did with them.
There is NO WAY I would shop at the big stores on Black Friday; maybe a big antique store though:-)
How wonderful you found it and how wonderful you have more work, play room in the art room ! LOL
good find my girl
OH WOW! Here's what gets me: you bought it and you right away finished it and put it to use! Bravo!
Wow Kathy! Looks great! Love the new make over! :) Have a great rest of the week! xo Holly

I love the wallpaper and I'm glad you did that instead of painting. It's just charming and colorful. And you have blank spots to fill up!
We had our Thanksgiving on Friday but I don't do Black Friday shopping...I value my life too much, lol!
The cabinet is beautiful Kathy! So, so pretty with all those florals! I stayed home and decorated! ;) xo Heather
