Ahhhh! The lilacs are blooming. The lilac perfume is one of my favorite parts of Spring. This is a dark purple hybrid called Frank Klaeger. I think I have blogged about that story before. Sadly, this bush is covered in moss and leaning severely so I do not think it is long for this backyard. I am enjoying it while I can.
This is an old fashioned lavender lilac that seems to be impervious to the afflictions of the hybrids.
I do not know what this plant is called. It was planted here when we bought the house 35 years ago and the bush is HUGE, about 15 feet across and 5 feet tall. Every Spring it is covered with cascading white blooms that remind me of a bridge's bouquet.
I hope Spring in in the air where you are!

Your lilacs are gorgeous! Kathy, the shrub with the white flowers is a Spirea. I have both lilacs and spirea in my yard as well.
Your lilacs are stunning!! Such a beautiful flower to have!! xo Heather
Kathy, your lilacs are beautiful. Our garden is still in its youth and we plan to go the Hulda Klager gardens this week and get some lilacs. I love them and you are lucky to have "established" bushes!
Yes it is an old fashioned Spirea...Comes up and falls out like a willow weeping with its flowers. I think I can smell those lilacs through my screen. Those are gorgeous...smiles...Renee
Beautiful pictures, love the beautiful color.
We didn't really have a spring, just went straight to summer. Had to turn the AC on today when it reached 90. Too much too soon.
Gorgeous blooms and fabulous phonos! Lilacs are my favorite fragrance in the spring. I want to put my nose to the screen and inhale!
"photos", I meant to say!
Oh I love lilacs too - we do not have them in Singapore. Your tree is beautiful!
That looks like Bridals wreath to me... and I so miss Lilacs.. I can smell them now...
